Zirconium Dioxide

From Harbour Refractory — reference entry

Zirconium dioxide (zirconia) is a ceramic oxide used in refractories and advanced ceramics; stabilized grades provide enhanced thermal-shock resistance or ionic conductivity.

Description

Refractory grades are selected for corrosion resistance in contact with aggressive slags or glasses. Stabilized zirconia compositions are used where phase stability or oxygen-ion conduction is required. Particle size and chemistry are chosen per application.

Applications

  • Corrosion-resistant refractories in glass and metallurgy
  • Advanced ceramics and thermal barrier components
  • Grinding media and wear parts

Packaging

  • Sealed bags or drums on pallets with batch identification
  • Prevent contamination with foreign particles
  • Handle to minimize dust generation

Storage

  • Store dry and covered; reseal after opening
  • Keep segregated to prevent cross-contamination
  • Use FIFO across multiple deliveries
