Fused Calcium Aluminate

From Harbour Refractory — reference entry

Fused calcium aluminate is used as a ladle refining flux and as a component in specialty binders where CaO–Al₂O₃ phases are required.

Description

Manufactured by electro-fusing selected raw materials to obtain controlled calcium–aluminate phases, then crushed and graded. In steel refining it supports slag formation and inclusion absorption; in binders it contributes to high-temperature capability and setting behavior depending on formulation.

Applications

  • Ladle refining flux in secondary metallurgy
  • Component of calcium-aluminate cements and mortars
  • Additive for slag conditioning (process-dependent)

Packaging

  • Moisture-protected bags or jumbo bags on pallets
  • Product and batch identification on labels
  • Prevent tearing and moisture ingress during handling

Storage

  • Store dry and covered; keep sealed until use
  • Avoid prolonged humidity prior to batching
  • Apply FIFO for multiple lots
