Flake Graphite

From Harbour Refractory — reference entry

Flake graphite is a crystalline carbon used for lubrication, electrical/thermal conduction, and as a carbon source in refractories.

Description

Grades vary in fixed carbon, ash, and particle size. Selection depends on target properties in refractories, coatings, or polymer systems where conductivity or lubrication is desired.

Applications

  • Carbon addition in alumina–carbon and magnesia–carbon refractories
  • Lubricants and conductive fillers
  • Foundry coatings and facing materials

Packaging

  • Bags or drums on pallets with product labels
  • Minimize dust release during handling
  • Protect packaging from puncture

Storage

  • Store dry and ventilated; keep sealed when not in use
  • Avoid ignition sources in dusty environments
  • FIFO to maintain lot consistency
