Ferrotitanium

From Harbour Refractory — reference entry

Ferrotitanium is a titanium–iron alloy used as a deoxidizer and to introduce titanium into steels for grain control and microstructure adjustment.

Description

Titanium can form stable carbides and nitrides that influence grain size in microalloyed steels. Addition practices are tailored to grade and process requirements.

Applications

  • Deoxidation and alloying in steelmaking
  • Grain refinement in microalloyed steels
  • Foundry additions as specified

Packaging

  • Bags or cartons on pallets with batch identification
  • Protect from moisture and mechanical impact
  • Observe safe handling guidance for metallurgical additions

Storage

  • Store dry and covered; keep sealed when not in use
  • Segregate lots for composition control
  • Apply FIFO to maintain consistency
