Ferrochrome

From Harbour Refractory — reference entry

Ferrochrome is a chromium–iron alloy used to introduce chromium into steels, especially stainless and alloy grades.

Description

Grades differ in carbon and chromium content. Addition practices and particle size are chosen according to steel grade and process route to meet composition and cleanliness targets.

Applications

  • Alloying addition in stainless and tool steels
  • Deoxidation and composition control in ladle metallurgy
  • Foundry applications requiring chromium

Packaging

  • Bagged or palletized with product and batch labels
  • Protect from moisture and oxidation during storage
  • Handle to prevent spillage and contamination

Storage

  • Store in a dry, covered warehouse
  • Keep packaging sealed until use
  • Use FIFO for lot uniformity
