Ferroboron

From Harbour Refractory — reference entry

Ferroboron is a boron–iron alloy used to introduce boron into steels to improve hardenability and control microstructure.

Description

Added in small quantities, boron affects transformation behavior in certain steels. Particle size and addition point are determined according to the steelmaking route and specification.

Applications

  • Alloying in special steels and boron-treated grades
  • Composition control in foundry practice
  • Modifier in powder metallurgy blends

Packaging

  • Bagged or bulk on pallets with product labels
  • Protect from moisture and oxidation during storage
  • Handle to prevent spillage and contamination

Storage

  • Store in a dry, covered warehouse
  • Keep packaging sealed until use
  • FIFO to maintain consistent alloy properties
