Calcined Alumina (from Aluminum Powder Oxidation)

From Harbour Refractory — reference entry

Calcined alumina obtained via high-temperature oxidation and calcination of aluminum powder, used as ceramic and refractory raw material or functional filler.

Description

Processing targets phase development and removal of volatiles. Particle size distributions are tailored for downstream forming or blending. Typical QC includes particle size, loss on ignition, and phase identification.

Applications

  • Raw material for refractory castables, bricks, and monolithics
  • Ceramic formulations for substrates and structural parts
  • Polishing and lapping media (grade-dependent)
  • Functional filler in high-temperature adhesives and coatings

Packaging

  • Multi-layer bags (e.g., 25 kg) or jumbo bags on pallets
  • Labels show product name, net weight, batch number
  • Protect from tearing and moisture during transport

Storage

  • Store dry and ventilated; keep packaging sealed when not in use
  • Avoid direct contact with water or prolonged humidity
  • Use FIFO for consistent powder handling
